Shiba Inu Meetup - September 21, 2008

Okay, so another month, another Shiba Inu meetup! This month's meetup was at Top Dogs Boutique in Kennesaw, GA. It was a good shopping experience as they have tons of Shiba stuff that is, usually, difficult to find. The room, however, was underwhelming to say the least. I cannot recommend this location for meetups for any group that has more than 5 people and 10 dogs. The room was stuffy, bright yellow (awful for pictures), and was a bit hot... really bad when you're claustrophobic! However, the dogs still had a pretty good time. I still prefer, hands down, to go to Best Friends Pet Care in Duluth for indoor meets, though. They had the ramp to play on, lots of room to play, and always provide treats or presents.

All ranting aside, it was nice to see all of the Shiba Inus again. We really have built a great extended Shiba-family within the group and I always enjoy seeing everyone. Sadie was much more behaved than last time, though she still gets riled up when the other dogs start play-fighting. Marley, as usual, spent the majority of his day underneath the chair.

We also had significant progress with Joji! She actually stayed in the middle of the room and even let people pet her. She's progressing! Do you see her hiding behind the American Eskimo?

Oh! And I was FINALLY able to find two of my "must-haves"... Orijen Dog Food (LOVE it!) and Puppia harnesses. They look great on the Shibas, but we passed on buying harnesses for the Pomeranians. I definitely do not recommend them for round-bodied dogs. I will try and post some pics of the kids in their new harnesses as soon as possible! In the meantime, I leave you with this priceless picture of Marley!

Update: Marley

Okay, so I know that I haven't been on to update anyone, but my computer crashed and I haven't had a lot of time on the computer, as such. Anyways, I just wanted to take a second and update everyone on Marley... we decided to adopt him!!

It only took about 3 hours of having him with us before we called Caroline at the Shiba Inu Rescue and told her that we were going to adopt. He fits in so well with our family and he's just too special to not have around all of the time.

Marley has settled in nicely and is having a fantastic time playing with his fur-brothers and sisters. He loves to play, sleeps with his head on my pillow, and is a big lap dog. We're looking forward to his first Meetup next weekend and I will have a full report on how things go!

New Foster: Joji

Okay, folks, brought home another Shiba Inu foster today when I dropped Marley off for his neuter. Her name is Joji, she's almost 2 years old, and she was surrendered by a woman who rescued her from a really bad puppy mill. This is, for those of you wondering, the same puppy mill that I've talked about before in Thomaston, GA.

Right now, Joji is, in my opinion, unadoptable. She's terrified of her own shadow, underweight, malnourished, and in need of some serious socialization. I will try to give everyone an update in a week or so to let you know how she's progressing. When she does come up for adoption, her adoption fee will be $200.

New Foster: Marley

We just picked up a new foster dog this morning! Marley is 2 years old and is a tri-colored - or red-headed black and tan - Shiba Inu. He is fantastically beautiful and sweet, too!

I will post some pictures of him as soon as I get a chance!

New Foster: Rockers

We are currently fostering a Manchester Terrier mix dog for the Forsyth County Humane Society. His name is Rockers, he is 4.5 years old, weighs about 25 pounds, and is a great dog! Though shy at first, he’s very sweet once he gets to know you and he absolutely loves to have his belly rubbed! Rockers is such a smart little dog. He comes on command, sits, lies down, and rolls over for you to rub his tummy. He gets along well with our other small dogs and is tolerant of cats. Rockers also enjoys playing tug and fetch, cuddling on the couch, and sleeping in the bed. He is crate trained and almost completely housetrained. I would say that the housetraining will be 100% within the next week.

Anyways, if you're interested in adopting a dog (or know someone who is), why not consider Rockers? He deserves a wonderful, loving, "fur-ever" home that can give him back all of the love he gives to others.

Thanks!

Update: Sadie

We took Sadie to the park yesterday and her knee popped out again. It's getting worse and is really starting to bother her now. We were hoping to push the surgery off to next year or so, but it looks like we're going to have to schedule it for this summer. We'll keep everyone updated as soon as we know more.

March 2008 Roswell Shiba Inu Meetup

What a wonderful day today! After the stress of last week and yesterday's terrible tornados and weather, today was a very pleasant surprise. Not only was it a beautiful sunny day, but most of the mud and muck was dried up by noon.

Sadie awoke bright and early and was ready to go by 10:30 this morning... she knew that today was the day for the Shiba Inu meetup group. She didn't fight me at all while I put on her harness, collar, St. Patrick's Day t-shirt, and her bright green bandanna. She also got quite impatient while I tried to get Colby ready to go, as well. Finally, it was 12:15 and we were in the car and headed down to Norcross to join all of the other Shibas at Pinckneyville Park.

As soon as we got to the park, Sadie was ready to go off-leash and play with all of the other Shibas! It was also exciting that she got to see her older brother, Sasuke, again AND she met her little sister, Beowulf! We managed to get a picture of the three of them together and it was so cute!! So, for your viewing enjoyment, here are Sadie (11 months), Beowulf (4.5 months), and Sasuke (2 years):

The whole time at the park was amazingly fun: Sadie had a blast with her Shiba-kin and Colby had a ball chasing around Rottweilers and Weimaraners. Another great meetup; way to go, Ana!

Anyways, after the park we headed straight home and Sadie and Colby both couldn't wait to get in the car and sleep. After a short rest at home, they took another walk around the neighborhood and went to play on the slides at the neighborhood park. As I type this, they are both passed out in the floor looking like little angels. :)

Beauregard - RIP

Sad day today... we lost our 12 year old male Himalayan, Beauregard. He had a blood clot that paralyzed him and we found him laying in the hallway and screaming in pain. We rushed him to an emergency clinic, but too much time had already passed and his chances of recovering were poor. We opted to let him go instead of putting him through more pain and treatments.

He will be greatly missed by all of us, that's for sure. My beautiful, sweet little boy.
